Colombiere School hosts Commonwealth Day celebrations

On March 11, 2019, the Colombiere School in Gambia hosted their annual Commonwealth Day celebrations for students and faculty members, as part of their calendar of extracurricular activities.

Approximately 60 students, ranging from Nursery level to grade three, participated in a fun-filled day packed with sports and arts events, and were joined by seven teaching staff and two members of the school’s management team.

The day began with dramas put on by the students wearing traditional costumes, and visits to elders in the community. They later held a parade along the main highway in the village, led by teaching staff and students from upper grades.

In the evening the students participated in football matches and other sports on the school grounds. Food was generously prepared and provided by parents of the students, and students shared their meals together.

The children were not the only ones partaking in the festivities—teachers and parents also joined in to sing and dance throughout the day!

The Commonwealth Day celebrations are an important opportunity for students to supplement their studies with recreational activities and create memories together. The activities are well-received by students each year.
